Sarabande wins Golconda Juvenile Million

Kunigal Stud Farm produce Sarabande won her fourth race in as many months when she prevailed over Jersey Pride in the Gr 3 Golconda Juvenile Million on Sunday at Malakpet, Hyderabad (Feb 12). The daughter of Burden of Proof out of Sasanda, is the first juvenile this season to win four races, having won twice in Bangalore and as many times at Malakpet. The result provided 1-2 for Kunigal Stud Farm as Jersey Pride who had won in his debut run at Bangalore, ran the eventual winner pretty close.

Jockey Mark Gallagher rode a confidence race on Sarabande as he sat well into the straight before setting alight the three-year old filly. The talented daughter of Burden of Proof quickened in a trice and went away for a decisive lead. The only threat to her supremacy came from another progeny of Burden of Proof, Jersey Pride whose chances were badly affected as he drifted out under pressure and lost precious ground as a result.

Sarabande thus maintained the good run of her deceased dam Sasanda who had proved to be a good broodmare. Incidentally, Sarabande’s full sister Lindsay had also done well, having won the Gr 1 Fillies Trial Stakes in Bangalore and given a great start to her sire who had three Gr 1 winners in his first season as a stallion in India, the others to do him proud being Fantabulous King, winner of Gr 1 Kingfisher Bangalore Derby and Gr 1 Poonawalla Mysore Derby winner Full Speed.
